HARRISON, Joan….

Passed away peacefully in her 101st year on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at Dearness Home, London. Predeceased by her husband John Harrison (2003). Loving mother to Wendy (Charlie), Gail (Ronald), Jayne (Robert), Anne (Fred), and Sue (the late Mark). Dear grandmother to 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great – great grandchild. HARMER, Robert “Rob”…

Robert James Harmer born September 8, 1961 in Stratford, Ontario to Don and Dorothy (nee Mitchell) Harmer. Died in his wife’s Nancy’s arms at his home outside Thorndale as he requested on Saturday, June 24, 2023.

Due to an explosion and fire at his place of work August 29, 1984, he retired early. He built up an extensive machine shop where he regained more mobility than anyone thought possible. He was the go-to guy to get things fixed in the neighbourhood. He had a love for cars, which can be seen by the building of his hotrod, the 1941 Fargo pickup (Margo), where every piece he touched, from building the engine to body work. He enjoyed travelling the world and was looking forward to more Viking Cruises. He enjoyed his involvement in the Thorndale Plays, where he did artwork, set design and mural painting. He was proud of his artwork prizes won at the Thorndale Fair. Some favourite times were spent cooking in the kitchen, where he was a gourmet cook. He also enjoyed landscaping and hand-built ponds, gardens and stairs with customized railing from machine shop. He even learned to fly a Cessna 172.

He will be missed by his wife, and nurse of 33 years Nancy Wickerson-Harmer, his brothers Rick (Cheryl) and Steve, niece Brianna and by his extended family, many neighbors and friends.

Cremation has taken place. Friends and guests are invited to a memorial and celebration of his life held on Sunday, July 9, 2023 from 1-4 p.m. at Thorndale Lions Community Centre, 265 Queen Street, Thorndale, ON.

GLOSSOP, Elizabeth “Bette”…

Elizabeth Anne Glossop passed away in London, Ontario, the day of June 20th, 2023. Elizabeth will be missed by her beloved friends and her cousins Bill Durst of Stratford and Bob Ross of Ottawa. She is predeceased by her loving parents Agnes Glossop and Francis Glossop.

Elizabeth was a pioneering woman. She joined the Navy in 1967, serving for 3 consecutive years. Following her career in the Navy, Elizabeth worked for London Scientific where she worked as a senior engineering technician. Elizabeth loved to go on drives and enjoy the country scenery. In her later years she was involved in Richards Memorial United Church.

GARRETT, Allan George…

Surrounded by the love of his family on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at University Hospital, London, Allan passed away at age 81. He is survived by his wife and soulmate Anne (Semple), their children Chris, Thomas and Karen, daughters-in-law Julia Correia, Susan Luterte and son-in-law Bryan Salt.  Proud Grandpa to Sebastian, Kepler and Anneliese.  Much loved big brother to Brian Garrett (fiancée Linda Leverton), brother-in-law to Dave Semple (Janice, predeceased), Sheila McCracken (Rob), Alex Semple (Sharon), Bill Semple (Debbie).  Predeceased by his parents George and Edna (Fredin) Garrett and his in-laws Hugh and Connie (King) Semple. Allan was a graduate of Beck Collegiate (1961), University of Western Ontario (1964), Western Michigan (1969).  He loved mathematics and at the age of 28 became Department Head of Mathematics at Chippewa Secondary School in North Bay, where he remained until his retirement 27 years later.  When his grandchildren were young, he loved to work with them weekly, exploring math concepts for fun. While teaching at Chippewa, Allan enjoyed helping to lead the Outers Club (canoe tripping & winter camping), and for many years coached the cross country ski team which rose to become a provincial powerhouse, winning many OFSAA titles throughout the years.  Allan himself raced with the Masters Cross Country Ski Association and in many local loppets. A true outdoorsman, Allan enjoyed many camping and canoe trips with family and friends.  Allan and Anne took their grandchildren every summer for a camping experience where the kids canoed, swam, hiked, ate s’mores around the campfire and learned useful skills like how to wash dishes by hand and how to use a clothes peg. Allan and Anne thoroughly enjoyed their retirement, spending as much time travelling as possible, including Australia, New Zealand, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Europe, Africa and South America and of course, North America.  They also cycled, skied, hiked, canoed and ballroom danced their way through the years. Cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation and reception will be held at the A. Millard George Funeral Home Reception Centre, 60 Ridout Street South, London (located on the southeast corner of the parking lot) from 1:15 until 3:15pm on Sunday, June 25, 2023. A service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 3:30 pm. DODD, Lillian Mae…

Quietly at Victoria Hospital, London, Lillian Mae Dodd passed away on the 17th of June, 2023. Predeceased by her parents Percy and Edith Dodd and her siblings Violet Paine (Ormand), Elsie McMillan (Albert “Mike”), Stanley Dodd (Anne) and Percy Dodd (Jean) and her nephews Robert McMillan, Thomas McMillan, Glenn Paine, Martin Bryan and Don Budden and her nieces Anne Gow (William) and Karen McMillan. Lillian is survived by her nieces and nephews Scott Dodd (Heather), Clarke Dodd (Deadre), Phillip Dodd (Beverly), Margaret Molnar (Michael), Barbara Bryan, Michael McMillan (Marilyn), Timothy McMillan, Melody McMillan, Lynda Paine, Louise Bolton (Richard), Wanda Budden and Marjorie Langford (Max). Lillian will be lovingly remembered by her many great nieces and nephews and friends. Lillian retired from the CIBC Regional Headquarters in the early 1990’s, she was a devoted parishioner of the Anglican Church, and she was a very talented singer and sang in many choirs including St. John’s Anglican in Strathroy and St. James Westminster Anglican Church in London. Friends will be received by the family one hour prior (10-11am) to the funeral service being conducted on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 11 am at St. James Westminster Anglican Church, 115 Askin Street, London, N6C 1E7. WOOD, Gordon Charles ….
Peacefully surrounded by family, after a long illness, Gordon “Butch” Wood of London in his 78th year. Beloved husband of the late Charmaine Lynn for 38 years. Cherished father of April (Darren) and Stephen (Matt). Beloved brother of Pat (the late Ted), Marion (the late Jerry) and Donna (Bruce). Loving uncle and great uncle of many nieces and nephews. Gord retired from the University of Western Ontario Department of Earth Science after 42 years. He was an avid outdoors man, a great fisherman and had great admiration of all animals. It is with great sadness, the MacDonald family announces the passing of Carol Janette MacDonald, peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Victoria Hospital, London. Dear wife of the late William. Loving mother of Scott (Heather). Special Grammy of Samantha and Sierra. Sister of Bruce (Linda) Scott, the late Jim Scott, Robert (the late Paulette) Scott, the late Audrey McNaughton, the late Lora and LJ McKay, Douglas (Cindy) Scott and Michael Scott. Carol will be lovingly remembered by many extended family members and friends. Carol had a great sense of humour and was always able to bring a smile to her loved ones. Carol will be laid to rest with her husband Bill at Woodland Cemetery, 493 Springbank Drive, London. LEWIS, Robert “Bob” Arthur …

Quietly on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, Robert “Bob” Lewis passed away in his 95th year. Beloved husband and best friend of Norma Lewis for 68 years. Dear Father of Christopher (Sharon) Lewis, Natalie (Chris) French and Leslie (Peter) Miller. Proud and adored Grandfather of Jennifer Lewis, Scott (Laura) Lewis, Heather (Mike) Gilpin, Christiana French, Katarina French, Meaghan (Glen) Moutrie, Vanessa French, Logan (Lara) Miller, Micayla (Rory) Miller. Cherished Great-Grandfather of Clara, Reid and Tessa Nisker, Wesley and Andi Gilpin and Winnie Moutrie.

Bob was an avid Bridge Player, attaining the designation of Life Master in 1964. After a fulfilling teaching career as a secondary school teacher, beginning in 1955 at Ingersoll Collegiate, then at Central S.S., Sir Wilfred Laurier S.S. and Wheable S.S. where he retired in 1987 as the Head of the Science Department. Bob pursued a career as a real estate agent for nearly 10 years, following his retirement. Bob enjoyed golfing, sailing and had a love for traveling.

MCMULLEN, Vincent Gerard….

It is with great sadness that the family of Gerry McMullen shares his passing on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, in his 89^th year.  Beloved husband for 63 years of the late Kathryn McMullen (Mahoney).  Loved father of Mark McMullen (predeceased 2019) and his wife Jo-Anne, Susan Clarke and her husband David and Patti McMullen.  Cherished Poppy of Wes, Sarah, Katie (Brian), Alex, Mike, Charlotte and great grandfather of little Poppy.  Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family members. 

Visitation will be on Monday, June 19, 2023, from 2 – 4 p.m., 7 – 9 p.m. and Tuesday June 20, 2023, from 12 – 1 p.m. at A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London where a service will be conducted in the chapel on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at 1 p.m.

After a long battle with cancer, Rolf Dieter Solga passed away on Tuesday, June 13th, 2023 at Victoria Hospital, London in his 86th year. Beloved husband and best friend of Linda Solga for 62 years. Devoted and loving father of Kim Solga and close friend Jarret Hardie. Dear uncle of Marie Christine, and Dominic. Dieter took much pride in his 1969 Mercedes Pagoda and was an active and well-liked member of the Mercedes Pagoda SL Group.
