Obituary
HARMER, Robert “Rob”…
Robert James Harmer born September 8, 1961 in Stratford, Ontario to Don and Dorothy (nee Mitchell) Harmer. Died in his wife’s Nancy’s arms at his home outside Thorndale as he requested on Saturday, June 24, 2023.
Due to an explosion and fire at his place of work August 29, 1984, he retired early. He built up an extensive machine shop where he regained more mobility than anyone thought possible. He was the go-to guy to get things fixed in the neighbourhood. He had a love for cars, which can be seen by the building of his hotrod, the 1941 Fargo pickup (Margo), where every piece he touched, from building the engine to body work. He enjoyed travelling the world and was looking forward to more Viking Cruises. He enjoyed his involvement in the Thorndale Plays, where he did artwork, set design and mural painting. He was proud of his artwork prizes won at the Thorndale Fair. Some favourite times were spent cooking in the kitchen, where he was a gourmet cook. He also enjoyed landscaping and hand-built ponds, gardens and stairs with customized railing from machine shop. He even learned to fly a Cessna 172.
He will be missed by his wife, and nurse of 33 years Nancy Wickerson-Harmer, his brothers Rick (Cheryl) and Steve, niece Brianna and by his extended family, many neighbors and friends.
Cremation has taken place. Friends and guests are invited to a memorial and celebration of his life held on Sunday, July 9, 2023 from 1-4 p.m. at Thorndale Lions Community Centre, 265 Queen Street, Thorndale, ON.
In memory of Rob, donations may be made to the Thorndale Agricultural Society. Arrangements entrusted with A. Millard George Funeral Home, 519-433-5184. Online condolences, memories and photographs shared at www.amgfh.com

Rest in peace Rob ??
Nancy, so sorry for your loss. Over the years, I have enjoyed many hours spent on Dinner Theatre sets which were enhanced by Rob’s talents and at our “after parties”. He will certainly be missed. Hugs – Bev
Rob was a true Master at so many things, a creative genius with the ability to make it happen. An incredible loss for the whole community. Sincere condolences. He will be greatly missed.
Our deepest sympathies is extended to Nancy and Rob’s family and friends. We have been good friends of Rob and Nancy’s for many years. We always admired Rob for his ability to overcome the many challenges he faced in his life. To us, he was our “Eating Buddy”. Whether we went out, or feasted on his delicious gourmet cooking at home. He was never afraid to try a new recipe. We so enjoyed being in his company. We will miss all of that, the laughs and good times that we shared over the years. Rest In Peace dear friend.
I met Rob just after the accident and from that day I looked at him as my hero . He was the strongest person I had ever met with everything he had been through . I can say I was lucky enough to have got to know a little bit about him and spend some time with the Harmer family .
To Robs wife , Steve and Rick my deeper condolences .
I send my condolences to you Nancy and to the rest of the family. I only met Rob once or twice when he was with you and remember that he was a very nice man. I hope that the happy memories you and Rob made together will help in the future.
I will miss Rob. He had such a gentle way about him. He always took an interest in what other people were working on when he came to our Art Group. I have cried with you.
Sincerely, Carole Stephenson
