  • Charles Beregi

    BEREGI, Charles …
    Peacefully at University Hospital, with family at his side, Charles was reunited with his late wife Eva (2015) on May 14, 2023, in his 92nd year.

    Charles is predeceased by his sister Elizabeth Beregi (1997). He was the stepfather of Eva’s three children, John, Danny and Margaret, and grandfather and great grandfather of many.

    Charles came to Canada in 1957 from Hungary. He was president of the Hungarian Club and proudly represented the Hungarian community his whole life. His interest included sports but especially soccer. He was a wonderful cook and he provided meals for many weddings and events.
    Charles retired from Nestles Ice Cream plant in 1996, where he worked as a millwright. He will be remembered as a very generous man who made sure he helped those in need by delivering goods such as fruits and vegetables, ice cream and candy.

    Adhering to his wishes there will be a private graveside service as he is laid to rest at Woodland Cemetery, London. Charles was a quiet man who wouldn’t wish for much attention but would appreciate to be remembered through sharing generosity and kindness to others in your life. Arrangements entrusted with A.   • Keith Roden

    RODEN, Keith…

    Peacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones, Keith Roden quietly passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023 in his 87th year.

    Beloved husband of Moira Roden for nearly 63 years. Cherished father of Rebecca Roden and Josh Roden and his wife Diana, all of London. Loving Ola and best breakfast date of Taylor Roden. Dear brother of Arthur Roden and Dorothy Roden, both of London. Predeceased by his sister Lenore Keat and his brother Bob Slade.

    Keith served as District Fire Chief in London and served 5 years in the RCN and 27 years in the RCNR. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and Mason.

    Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London. A Masonic Service under the Auspices of Centennial Lodge No. 684 A.F. & A.M. will be held at 6:30 pm.   • Alan Whitfield

    WHITFIELD, Alan…

    Alan George Arthur Whitfield passed away peacefully in London, Ontario, the morning of May 11th, 2023 in his 100th year. Alan will be missed by his children, Catherine of Toronto and Dennis (Wendy) of Ottawa. Loving brother of Dora Gover of Thorndale. Alan will also be missed by his many other relatives. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Winifred, after nearly 62 years of marriage. Also predeceased by his son, Murray.

    The family would like to thank all the staff at Southbridge London for their exceptional care of Alan over the last year. Many thanks to Dr. Wicket at Victoria Family Medical Centre for taking care of Alan for 50+ years. Lastly, a special thank you goes out to Cindy Williams for being there for Alan always.

    Alan was gifted a lifetime membership in the London Horticultural society for his many years of participation, was treasurer of the Canadian Rose Society for many years, and one of the founding members of The Wm. Saunders Rose Society. He also played golf and curled.

    Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service in memory of Alan at St. James Westminster Anglican Church, 115 Askin Street, London, on Friday, May 19th at 1:30 pm.   • Jean Knowles

    KNOWLES, Jean Winnifred (nee MacKenzie)…

    Jean Knowles passed peacefully at Grand Wood Park Retirement residence, London, Ontario on Sunday May 7, 2023 in her 95th year with family by her side.

    Pre-deceased by her husband Fred Knowles (2019) after nearly 66 years of marriage. Mother of David (Kim) and Dennis (Karen). Beloved Grandmother of Matthew (Andrea), Emily (Matthew), Robert and Christine. Proud Great Grandmother of Abbie, Aubrey, and Logan. Youngest of a family of 6 children and pre-deceased by her 5 siblings Beatrice, Harold, Ruth, Donald, June.

    While employed full-time, Jean still found time for her many passions in life. She was very involved at Calvary United Church where she and Fred were devoted members with Jean supporting the UCW and both attending Couples Club.

    She was incredibly talented and enjoyed working with her hands. Jean was an excellent and accomplished seamstress, she could make anything from small items, such as gloves and doll clothes, to large items, including clothes and coats. She even made dance clothes for her grand daughter. Several part-time courses allowed her to create various pieces of artwork using different mediums. She also knit and crocheted. When it came to the kitchen, Jean was an excellent cook as were all her sisters. She had several signature dishes including potato salad, baked beans, Dutch apple pie, lemon meringue pie, and the greatest Black Forest Cake.

    Jean was all about her family and enjoyed creating special dishes and home-made keepsakes for them. Family reunions for the MacKenzie family were epic with 50 or more family members in attendance. She will be greatly missed by many including family and life acquaintances.

    Thanks to the staff at Grand Wood Park Retirement Home which have provided a wonderful environment for Jean’s past 3 years. Also, thanks to Home & Community Care palliative care staff.

    A Celebration of Life or Funeral will take place at a later date. Cremation has taken place.   • Reverend Canon Gregory Smith

    Reverend Canon Gregory William Smith

    Suddenly on Saturday, May 6, 2023 in London, Greg passed in his 70th year. He will be greatly missed by his family and large group of loving friends and colleagues.

    Beloved soulmate of Marque, loving and proud dad of Andrew (Melissa), Cate, and Paul (Chantel), lovingly remembered by Maureen and his 6 grandchildren; Caitlynn, Dylan, Devyn, Zachary, Lyon and Gabriel and his big sister Sherry (Rick). Predeceased by his parents William Albert and Ruth Smith.

    Greg loved spending time in his garden and being out in the beauty of nature. He loved his books, old cheesy musicals, music, and most of all, dance. Known fondly as “Father Greg” to many, he served as a spiritual leader in the Anglican diocese at St. John the Evangelist, (London), St Thomas (Granton), St. Patrick’s (Saintsbury) and St. Paul’s (Kirkton), Transfiguration (London), Christ Church (London), St. Aidan’s (London), St. Michael and All Angels (London), and was the Director of Field Education at Huron College (2013- 2020). Greg was the Director Designate of the Huron Church Camp (1980), The Regional Dean of Medway Deanery (January 1985), Regional Dean of Wellington (1996, 97, 98), Chair of the Huron Hunger Fund (2003) and Canon of the Cathedral of St. Paul (May 27, 2007).  Part of his life of service included championing many causes including the Primate’s World Relief and Development fund, the Regional HIV/AIDS Connection, Daya counselling centre, the Justice League and many more. He brought song, joy and connection to many through his work at Huron Church Camp and as an Akela of his cub troop, his Sunday story times, and children’s festivals. Generous of spirit, he was always available to his friends and ready for a good time, good food, some karaoke or, in the right season, Christmas caroling.

    Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Thursday, May 11th, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-9 pm at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London. The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 12th, 2023 at 10:30 am at St. Paul’s Cathedral, 472 Richmond Street, London. Family and friends are invited to join the funeral service live from the comfort of their homes, by visiting the St. Paul’s Cathedral YouTube channel or their website and clicking on the YouTube logo. Cremation to follow with a private family interment in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, London at a later date.

  • Murray Foubert

    FOUBERT, Murray William…

    Murray William Foubert passed away peacefully in London, Ontario on the 3rd of May, 2023 in his 94th year. Beloved husband of the late Shirley (nee Peak) Foubert for 66 years. Murray will be missed by his children Michael Foubert and Michelle Foubert both of London, ON. Cherished grandfather of Courtney Rowley and Poppy of Jaxxson and Caden. Also dearly missed by his brothers Alan and Brian Foubert of Essex, ON.

    Murray was a well-rounded sports fan, he loved to play “golf with the guys” every week, well into his 80’s. He was a founding member of the London District Baseball Organization, and coached youth baseball for 14 years for Southwest London. Murray was a life-time member, for over 65 years of the London Board of Basketball Officials and later in life a long-standing member of London Oldtimers Sports Association. Murray played basketball for the Champion Tech Grads as well as umpired for many championships over the years.

  • Edward “Ted” Saunders

    Peacefully at University Hospital, London on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, Edward “Ted” Saunders passed away days shy of his 79th birthday. Beloved son of the late Edgar and Vera Saunders. Dear brother of Joseph Saunders and his late wife Diana. Loving uncle of David Saunders and his wife Mona and Cathy Grand and her husband James and great uncle of Katelyn, Mackenzie, Shelby, Joseph, Addison, and Avery.

    Ted was a resident of Forward House, his life was touched ever so kindly by the care and compassion of the staff, especially Eric, Niki, Tate, Allison, Kim and Nicole. The Saunders’ family extends many thanks to all those who worked with Ted over the years.

    Friends are welcome to visitation on Monday, May 8, 2023, at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London, one-hour prior (10-11am) to the funeral service at 11am.   • Ivan Goossens

    GOOSSENS, Ivan…

    Quietly at home, Ivan Goossens passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 in his 71st year.

    Ivan was predeceased by his partner of 34 years Ron Robinson (2009). He is survived by his stepchildren Lisa Harrison (Daniel Thompson) and Dale Robinson, his step grandchildren Ceilidh Harrison; Enya, Darby and Blaine Robinson. He was the dear brother of Roger (the late Mary), the late Imelda (the late Frank), the late Arsene (Barb), Magda (the late Casey), and Helene (William). Ivan will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Andre and Leona as well as his stepmother Alice.

    Ivan was born in 1952 in Belgium and immigrated to Canada as a toddler. He was a long time Bell Canada employee. His greatest joy was cooking and entertaining. Ivan’s family wishes to thank his many friends for their care and attention, but in particular, Dale and Ron; Topher and Kim; and Greg.

    Tragically and unexpectedly, Chris Chandler passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at the age of 47.

    Chris is survived by his spouse Iva Konjhodzic, parents Ann and Rick, brother Mike, and extended family.

    Chris enjoyed golfing with his friends and spending quality time with his doggos. He was a devoted dog parent to Kiwi, Georgie and Peach. Chris was kind, patient and effortlessly funny. He was not a man of many words but approached life with a curious spirit, good nature and a smile, which made him a pleasure to be around. His company and many endearing qualities will truly be missed.

    It is with great sorrow, that we announce the passing of Stephen Dalrymple in his 60th year, peacefully at home April 29, 2023, in the early morning. Loving husband of wife and best friend Barbara and his two children Sean (Ashley) and Reverends Lesley (Mark).

    Loving son of Majors Kenneth (predeceased) and Roberta Dalrymple, loving son-in-law of Mr. & Mrs. Donald (predeceased) and Sheila Stickland. Brother to Major Barbara Dalrymple, Majors Stewart (Crista) Dalrymple. Brother-in-law to Kathy (Paul) Barnetson, Jamie (Candi) Stickland, Jason (Amy) Stickland. Cherished Uncle to Mackenzie, Meredith, Nathan, Jonathon (Melissa), Mychal (Jessica), Candice, Adam (Erin), Andrew (Sophia), Emerson, Elliott, Everett.  

    Stephen loved Jesus and was involved with the Salvation Army and is currently a member of the Nazarene Church. He loved his family. He had a kind heart for people always willing to help. He had many good friends. He was passionate about music and loved playing the tuba over the years.
