My sympathy goes to you and all your family at this time. It’s never easy to say goodbye, but the sadness we feel is softened by the wonderful and treasured memories we have of your Dad. As a youngster, when riding my bike past your barn on my way down to Uncle Bob’s, I always hoped to see Bert in the yard or on the tractor because he always gave such a warm smile and wave. Also, he was the one who introduced me to maple pulling toffee when I first came back from China. I’ll never forget his quiet chuckle when I got hopelessly entangled with the gooey, but so delicious stuff!
In later years, we enjoyed visits out here in Calgary from Ontario cousins – and believe it or not, I managed to find your Dad’s signature in my guest book for July 3, 1975! My husband and I made a return visit with him in Florida, sometime around 1980 or 81 I think. Then finally, I had the privilege of seeing and reminiscing with him in May of last year.
You may be sure Art, that your Dad has cast a long shadow and will be long remembered with great affection and heartfelt love.
May our Lord strengthen and comfort you now.
With my prayers and love, Mavis (Knight) Weatherhead

Hello to all………I thought I would send a quick message to pass on my condolences to everyone. Though I did not know Bert for much more than the last few years it was certainly my pleasure to know Bert. My deepest sympathy to all….

Mother just called from Heather’s place in Vancouver to share the sad news that Uncle Bert has passed away. I’m deeply saddened. For me Uncle Bert will always be that wonderful fellow with the magic steam engine. My earliest remembrance of him was of his face lighting up as he explained how it all worked. My thoughts also go to his children and grandchildren. Art, Pat and their family hold a special place in my heart. We all have been given roots and wings by the generations that came before us. We may not see each other as often as we used to before the wings were flexed but the roots are strong and tie the heart to those that have shared our lifetime. I’ll be thinking of you all. Love Andy
