I was hoping to be able to travel to London on Tuesday to express our condolences in person, however, a summer cold got the better of me. Helen was such a loving and kind person, I have such fond memories of her from when I was a kid on Antioch Drive. I have one particularly fond memory of Helen that I’ve been known to tell my kids (using it as a lesson in kindness and an example of what I see as a less materialistic time, don’t get me started).
I had the chicken pox and had to stay home for several days from school. I was not all that sick, so was extremely bored (no Nintendo, only black & white TV with just 12 channels, etc.) and feeling a little sorry for myself. Helen brought me the nicest Barbie doll (if I had kept it…) and a bottle of Orange Crush. It really made a mark on my memory and helped me on the road to recovery.
She was a great lady, I’ll always remember her laugh and her kind smile. She’ll be greatly missed.
