Obituary
HEATH, Rupert…
Rupert Heath, founder of the Dean Street Press, died unexpectedly of heart failure on 6th March 2023, aged 54, at home in London, Ontario. He was the beloved husband of the late Amanda Heath, who tragically died of cancer on 25th January, 2023. He is survived by his two adored children, George and Annabel Heath, his parents, Mike and Frances Heath, his sister Victoria and brother-in-law Arndt Eade, his nieces Sophie, Louise and Erica, his nephews Phillippe and Felix, and many friends around the world.
A love of all things cultural led Rupert through a rich life, travelling the world and embracing new experiences in many countries. He had a passion for music and sang, played guitar, banjo, ukulele and drums for rapt audiences. He shared his love of music and travel with his beloved children, and he and Annabel loved to watch, and comment on, obscure films.
Born into a military family, Rupert attended Sherborne School (where he was head of the Oscar Wilde appreciation society) before getting a degree in Art History at the Courtauld Institute, London. He began his publishing career as an editor at Usborne books, worked as a commissioning editor at Pan MacMillan, then created the Rupert Heath Literary Agency. In 2014, he founded the very successful Dean Street Press, which republishes little known and rare golden age authors.
Always happy to delight and entertain, Rupert’s charm was legendary. He was elegant, witty, and always beautifully dressed. He was a generous and warm friend who went out of his way to make people feel special. He leaves so many wonderful memories, and will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues. Let George have the last word: ‘My Dad was a successful entrepreneur and a kind, gentle, strong, smart and amazing man.”
Cremation has taken place and family and friends are welcome to join the memorial service on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 2 pm at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London. Goodbye to my lovely little brother and a wonderful uncle. “The song is ended but the melody lingers on” XXX
Rupert was my first friend at university and we hung out a lot in our first year at the Courtauld. After leaving university we didn’t stay in touch but I will always remember him as witty, pithy, outstandingly kind and polite.
I am deeply sad to hear of Rupert’s passing and my condolences to his family and friends. Please see the photo in the gallery.
Goodbye Rupert, love from Jo x
I never knew Rupert personally but he was married to Amanda who I knew very well and I know how heart broken Rupert was when Amanda died in January and I sent him a few messages to express how sorry we all were to hear of his loss and so now to learn that Rupert has joined her in heaven is Heart breaking and I want to just say how sorry we are of his loss for his children and family and friends
Farewell to my Best Man, the best man ever. A lifetime of love and friendship that will never be forgotten.
Ciao Il Lupo (Sounds better in Italian).

Our hearts break over and over again each time we look through the window and remember that our dearest neighbours are gone, gone to a place where we can’t see, talk, touch, or hug them.
Your life was so bright, and your smile radiated kindness. Your beautiful soul was full of love and grace.
Adieu, friend. I hope you find eternal peace…
A great friend at University his support and creativity remains a fond and strong memory, particularly his brilliant production of the Importance of Being Ernest. I had always hoped to see him again this side of the pond some day.
A loss for us all of a sensitive, funny and one of the kindness men I have ever met. You will be in our hearts for ever and sadly missed Rupert.
I studied with Rupert at the Courtauld and although we didn’t keep in touch, it’s been so lovely to hear of his happy family life and professional achievements.
Dear Rupert, I remember you fondly as a dry, funny, perceptive, kind and sweetly shy man. My condolences to Rupert’s family and friends xx
I met Rupert working at Usborne and we stayed in touch over the years. He was a source of fantastic book recommendations (obviously), hilarious stories and was also kind and generous. My thoughts go out to his wonderful family, may he rest in peace. Rupert will always be in our memories
Dear Rupert, we only met you a couple times but we loved sharing laughs and drinks with you, Amanda and other neighbours in this wonderful place. You will both be missed.
We will remember Rupert for his elegance, his quick wit, his amazing knowledge of music, and the depth of his love for his children, George and Annabel. We send our deepest condolences to them and to his family in England and to all his friends. His presence in this world will be missed.
My sincere condolences to the family of Rupert Heath, to his children George, Annabel Heath, parents, family members. May he rest in peace. I will remember him as a very kind, friendly soul….
Shocked and saddened. My condolences to your family, especially your Annabel and George. RIP
