Obituary
Duplan, Janet…..
Peacefully passed away at Kensington Village, London on Monday, August 21, 2023, in her 96th year. Beloved wife of the late Ted Duplan (2014) for 61 years. Loving mother of Susan Duplan (Michael Rescorl), John Duplan (Ellie Kop) and Gordon Duplan (Debbie). Cherished grandma of Garrett, Greg (Nickki), Karlyn (Dale), Matthew (Steph), Lauren (Drew), Sarah (Roddy) and great-grandma of Carmen, Cameron, Amelia, Wynona, Tia, Bryce, and Waylon. Predeceased by her parents Helen and Harry Down.
Janet thoroughly enjoyed playing sports when she was young. She won the single women’s WOSSA Championship in tennis when she attended South Collegiate. She played softball with the London Eagles, a team in the Women’s Softball League in London.
Janet was a competent and dedicated nurse for several years at Victoria Hospital, South Street Campus before beginning her family.
Janet was a member of the Highland Golf Club for 48 years playing golf and won many golf championships. She passed her appreciation of sports on to her children and grandchildren.
She was the chairperson of the LPGA for Western Ontario for three years, long time member of St. Paul’s Cathedral and served on the Altar’s Guild. She enjoyed many summers and winters with her family at the family cottage in Grand Bend. Her love of dogs was a big part of her life, and she owned many family pets throughout the years.
Cremation has taken place. A private family interment will be held at Woodland Cemetery, London. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the London Regional Cancer Program. A. Although we never got to know Janet, we heard stories of her golf prowess, and how her mastectomy shaved a few strokes off her game and she joked with her surgeon that her game might improve even more if he took the other one! What a great sense of humour.
We heard of her nursing career and her life as a business woman running her own floral arranging business as a vehicle for her creative side.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Gord, John and Susan, as well as their families. Remember the good times and comfort yourself with the knowledge that she is finally at peace after a long, slow deterioration of her fondest memories. She is reunited with the love of her life, Ted, where he can hold her is his arms once again.
Gord, Debbie and Family,
Thinking of you as you celebrate your Mom’s/Grandma’s life. What an amazing life journey she had! Her obituary certainly painted a picture of a strong, competitive, lovely lady. XO
We had the good fortune to have Jan and Ted as neighbours of ours for 25 years.
We had countless chats and enjoyed the opportunity to share in each others lives.
We extend our sympathy to Jan’s family.
Dear Susan, John and Gordie; I am sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. Your family was a big part of Kingsmere for many years. Thinking of you Evelyn
Dear Susan, John and Gordon,
My mother, June Abel (new Ruse), was your mom’s first cousin. I was very sorry to hear of your mom’s passing, but what a full and wonderful life she lived!
I have fond memories of periodic gatherings of the Ruse/Abel/Duplan/Weir…etc. families – always great laughter over wonderful stories told!
Very best wishes to you all – I will keep you in my thoughts.
Martin Abel
Gord, Deb, Matt, Lauren & Sarah,
Thinking of all of you during this difficult time. Strength in the days ahead. We are so sorry for your loss.
Hugs
Rick & Linda
Dear Susan, John, and Gordon
I’m so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. Janet certainly led a long, full life. My memories of our summers together at Grand Bend are full of the times we spent at your cottage and the fun that your parents encouraged.
Thinking of all of you, Lucille
