Dearest Rhonda, Tony and Kayla,
Our deepest condolences on your loss. We loved Nikki with the bottom of our hearts. She was absolutely wonderful.
Dearest Nik,
Friends may come and go, but you are one friend that will always be around. We love you and miss you so much! Here’s a little something that I wrote for you a while ago. You were like the sister I never had.
My bestfriend is my heart.
She opens doors to rooms
I never knew were there,
Breaks through walls
I don’t recall building.
She lights my darkest corners
With the sparkle in her eyes.
My bestfriend is my soul.
She inspires my wearied spirit
To fly on wings of angels
But while I hold her hand
My feet never leave the ground.
She stills my deepest fears
With the wisdom of her song.
My bestfriend is my past.
She writes my history
In her eyes I recognize myself,
Memories only we can share.
She remembers, she forgives
She accepts me as I am
With tender understanding.
My bestfriend is my future.
She lives within my dreams
She sees my undiscovered secrets,
Believes in me as I stumble
She walks in step beside me,
Her love lighting my way.
My bestfriend is my strength
She hears the whispered prayers
That I cannot speak
She helps me find my smile,
Freely giving hers away
She catches my tears
In her gentle hands.
My bestfriend is like no one else
She’s my most treasured friend
Filling up the empty spaces
Healing broken places
She is my rock, my inspiration.
Though impossible to define,
In a word, she is…my bestfriend.
May God be with all those who morn and may you have strength in knowing she is safe in his arms.

Nikki
After a while you learn the subtle difference
Between holding a hand and chaining a soul.
And you learn that love doesn’t mean leaning
And company doesn’t mean security,
And you begin to understand that kisses aren’t contracts
And presents aren’t promises.
And you begin to accept your defeats,
With your head held high and your eyes open,
With the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child. You learn to build your roads
On today, because tomorrow’s ground
Is too uncertain for plans, and futures have
A way of falling down in midflight.
After a while you learn that even sunshine
Burns if you get too much.
So you plant your own garden and decorate
Your own soul, instead of waiting
For someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure.
That you really were strong
And you really did have worth.
Nikki, I will always remember the sparkle in your eyes,
The snicker of your smile and the charm you brought to me. I’ll love you forever.

Dear Kayla and Family,
It was my great pleasure to teach Nicki at Woodland Heights Public School in 1995 and 1996 as her grade 7 and 8 teacher. I remember Nicki with fondness. She was always a happy student who met challenges head on. Nicki genuinely cared about the welfare of others – she was always one I could count on. Such a tragic and early loss is hard to fathom. Please know that Nicki is remembered by this teacher with smiles. I am feeling your loss and sharing your sorrow. Kayla, now you are in my class and together we can keep Nicki’s spirit alive… remember when you were just little and I would always make a fuss over you because you were Nicki’s little sister? I am glad we are together now. I also lost a family member too soon and my mom always said that God (or whoever you believe in) never gives you more than you can handle. I grew to understand that it’s true. May you and your family feel the warmth of all those who are thinking of you at this sad time.

Ever since the first day of meeting you, our friendship was very different than any friendships I have ever had. It was always so easy and comfortable to talk to you about everything and anything. I will never forget you, and you will always stay in my heart as my great great great friend. I have always tried to be there for you as you were there for me, and I am very sorry if i messed up at times…and Im sorry I was so busy with my school and work these past couple of months. I regret not spending more time with you recently, but if I only knew I would never see my friend again! I loved you, our laughs, talks and just everything we shared in the last three years.
I miss you very very much and I still cant believe that I will never be able to see you smile again.
With all my love,
forever your friend Martina

I knew Nikki since grade six. we went to school together through Brick, Woodland and Westminster. Unfortenatly through the years our paths took us different ways and we grew apart. Recently our paths crossed again and we ended up working at the same place. I always thought I’d have plenty of time to find her and have a chat with her but I guess I waited to long.
I will always remember Nikki as the kind and friendly person she was.
I will be making a donation on Nikki’s behalf.
