I am very sorry to hear of Ed’s passing. We ran into each other at the Tim Horton’s on Horton, near Wellington, about five years ago. We had a long talk. I gave him some of my published writings to look at. He mailed me a couple of books he had published. I also saw him at a garage sale at my church about four years ago. I know many in the heritage community besides myself will always remember his generosity and his foresight in helping preserve regional heritage.
To the Phelps family,
I was actually thinking about Ed last week and wondering how he was doing. I wanted to let you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I first met Ed when I started at Western Libraries in May 1970. He was always so helpful and kind whenever I needed any information from the Regional Collection. Take care and again you are in my thoughts. Jean
To the Phelps family,
Ed was a great friend to my father, Bob Edwards, and I knew Ed since I was just a little toddler. He always had a book to give me, and always had a kind heart. I always looked up to him as an extremely smart man, and I admired him greatly. He was also a pillar of support for my mother when my father passed away, and we appreciate everything he has done for our family. I will always remember what a great man he was, and pray that he is finally at peace.
Sincerely,
Kyla Fug
I am sorry to hear of Ed’s passing. Ed was a unique guy; he was different things to different people. He had a warm heart and always made me laugh about something. He was a world of knowledge and a kind, generous man. I, like many others have a collection of postcards he sent to us during his trips. No one really knows why we were the chosen few to receive these cards, but they were always very enlightening, amusing and true to Ed’s style. I am sorry I will not be in town to attend the funeral but my thoughts will be with Ed’s family and friends; and of happy memories of my friendship with Ed.
Mr Phelps was at our house several years ago to get info on our family background in the oil boom days in Petrolia. We also attended St. Pauls United church in Petrolia when Rev. Jim Phelps was there.Deepest sympathy, Cathy Bradley
May angels light you to your rest and may you rest in peace in the Light of the Lord.
To the Phelps Family & Peter
I just wanted to say how shocked and sorry I was to hear of the death of Ed. I met Ed through my brother (Steve) about 25 years ago. I always found Ed to be a very kind and generous man. My last meeting with Ed took place in April of 1990 during the funeral of my father. I will always remember that day as we had the funeral in a Catholic Church and I saw Ed going to receive Holy Communion and I commented to Steve how I did not think that Ed was Catholic. Steve said that he is not. That to me was Ed, doing what he wanted without any worries.
May he rest in eternal peace.

I am indeed saddened at the news of Mr. Phelps death. I knew of his love for St. Lucia and the great interest he took in documenting its history. It’s a great loss to a lot of us. Please accept my deepest condolences on his passing.

Governor General of St. Lucia
