With deepest regret I learned of Colonel Bob Newman’s passing. He was an inspiration, good friend and true humanitarian to so many.
As we drift in quiet solitude
through the gardens of our mind,
the memories of the friends we’ve known
start slowly to unwind
They blossom forth like flowers
of crimson, gold and blue,
then fade into the distance
to form a subtle hue
Colonel Bob was such a person
who reached out to touch our life,
and shared with us his passions,
his happiness and strife
Though not with us he’ll always be
somewhere we can find,
dancing softly with the breeze
through the gardens of our mind.
Please pass on to Helen Newman and Bob’s family my sincere regrets and sympathy.

I first met cousin Bob when I was about 10 years old. Bob and his friend had come west in the summer to help with the harvest on the family farm at Belle Plaine. I remember thinking that Bob was one of the most handsome young men that I had ever met. Not only that, but he was also very kind, and didn’t mind having his young cousins tagging along for rides in the grain truck.
When my husband passed away about 18 months ago, Bob sent many inspirational e-mail messages which helped to buoy my spirits. I came to look forward to opening my e-mails every morning (even getting up early on work days) to see what neat jokes that Bob had sent that morning. I usually forwarded all of them to my friends! I will sorely miss him and his wonderful e-mails.
Thanks to Bob, I wear red every Friday, in tribute to our Canadian troops, wherever they might be. When I put on my red outfit every Friday, I will be reminded of my dear cousin. His suffering is over. May he rest in peace! My thoughts and prayers are with his family, now and forever. Love, Cousin Pat.
