Obituary
SCHELL, Gottlieb…
November 9, 1938 – October 24, 2021
Reverend Gottlieb Schell of London, Ontario, passed away and went to be with his Saviour and Lord Jesus, on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at University Hospital in London, ON, following a brief illness. Beloved husband of Helga Schell, his wife of 58 years. Loving father of Diane Sloss (Dean), Gary Schell (Marvelyn) and Linda Cherry (Richard). Cherished grandfather of Rebekah (Justin), Kristen (Ben), Matthew, Joel (Kaitlyn), David, Andrew, and Kevin. Dear brother of the late Frieda Schwinghammer (Helmut), Nick Schell (Heidi) and Trudy Weber (Wolfgang). He is survived by many other family and friends.
Gottlieb was born in the town of Welimirowatz in former Yugoslavia on November 9, 1938. He was the second born of four children to Peter and Magdelena Schell. Both parents were of German descent. As a young boy of the age of 6, he moved with his family to Pirmasens, Germany. It was here that he was saved, baptized and filled with Holy Spirit at the age of 13. Full of joy and zeal for the Lord, he went about evangelizing the region on his bike, and God used him to establish seven churches.
In 1957, at the age of 18, he immigrated to Canada with his family where they settled in the town of Leamington, Ontario. He became a journeyman in the sheet metal and furnace installation trades, and also helped out with the family business building houses. During this time he met a lovely young lady, Helga Kutzner, whom he fell in love with. On August 24, 1963 they were married. They lived together in Windsor, Ontario, and were blessed with three children. In his time in Windsor he worked hard at his trade, built three houses, and was heavily involved in the church. On Mother’s Day in 1971 he was in a life-altering car accident. In the midst of this experience, God called him to give himself to full-time ministry. Once recovered, he then moved his family to Peterborough, Ontario, where he did his ministry training at EPBC. Afterward he pastored a number of churches in Ontario, Alberta, and British Colombia with The Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada until his retirement.
Gottlieb was a hard-working, amiable, fun-loving man, who found great fulfilment in ministry. He loved God and his family with all his heart.
Visitation will be held at Church in the Oaks, 150 Conway Drive, London, ON on Saturday, October 30 from 9:00-10:00 am. Immediately following the visitation will be the funeral service in the adjacent sanctuary commencing at 10:00 am. Interment in Woodland Cemetery, London to follow immediately and is open to all.
In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome memorial donations to be made to Compassion Canada, 985 Adelaide Street South, London, ON N6E 4A3 or www.compassion.ca/make-a-donation. We want to take these few words to say about our love for our uncle Gottlieb.
We had the immense pleasure of meeting you together with all Schell descendants.
He made a point of keeping in touch with all the Krebs in Brazil. He was a “bridge of love” between us all.
Now you’ve come home. Very soon we will meet again.
We will miss you, dear uncle.
We will love you forever and ever.
Rest in peace.
With all the love of his family in Brazil, represented by Sergio, Marta and family.
