Obituary
COPLEY, George Edward…
(1924-2021)
Passed away peacefully at Kensington Village, London on October 26 in his 97th year. Predeceased by his wife Marion (2006) and by his brother Bill and sister-in-law Marion. Survived by his loving partner Janet Hines and her family. Cherished father to Anne (Ian), Donald and Brent (Mary). Dear grandfather to Stewart (Hannah), Meghann (James), Sarah, Allison (Ajay), Drew (Shannon) and Taylor (Rachel) and great-grandfather to Elizabeth, Archie, Thomas and Maisie.
George lived an active life, enjoying gardening, camping, cross-country skiing, canoeing and dancing. He took up running after his retirement, and for many years was an active participant in the Retirement Research Association (RRA) fitness program at Western University.
The railway was a constant presence in George’s life, from his childhood in St. Thomas, to his long career with the CN, to his volunteer service at the Elgin County Railway Museum. George will be lovingly remembered by many extended family members and friends – all of whom have heard at least one of his stories of the steam days!
A private service will be held at Woodland Cemetery, London.

Dear Anne &family,
I enjoyed your Dad’s easy-going manner and sense of humour. He had the bluest eyes ever! Reading his obit his was a life certainly well-lived! My sincere condolences.
Our condolences to all George’s family as you celebrate the life of a great man,and gentleman !! George and Janet were true blue and key members of RRA/LRRA exercise group, on the track at UWO, where George would cup his hands to his lips and blow the sound of the whistle of a steam engine as he passed by !! So very real, and special, as was he. You had to love him !!!!!
George’s friendship at the RRA was a great support for so many of us. I will miss him. (It turns out that he and I lived about 2-3 blocks apart in Sarnia a long time ago, but never met until the exercise group.)
We are so sorry to hear of George’s passing. It has been a difficult two years with no visiting. My wife, Marjorie, was George’s Elder from Elmwood Avenue Presbyterian Church, and we have both enjoyed hearing his tales of life in the steam train world.
We send our condolences to Anne, Don, Brent & all the Copley family. We have great memories of all the vacations & happy times spent with George and family over the years. The Kalar family.
