Obituary
MOLL, Harriett…
Harriet Jane Moll (nee Lee), in her 101st year. Daughter of the late William Garnet Lee and the late Emma Edith (nee Cunningham), predeceased by her brother, Maj (Ret’d) William Ervin Lee, CD. Beloved and proud mother of the late Gilbert Bertram Moll (Maureen), survived by daughter Mary Jane MacKenzie (Jon), and son Capt Richard Lee Moll (Evelyn). Loving grandmother of Amanda-Jane, Odessa, Kathleen, Alexis, Drew, Kaitey, and Capt Richard Eoghan Moll. Beloved great-grandmother of Lena, Makenna, Kieran, Jon Oliver, Myles, Hannah, Lochlan, Larkin, Chancellor, Wesley and Crawford. Much loved “Auntie Harriett” to Gregor, Robert, the late Ina (2005), Mary, David and Barb Lee. Born in London in April of 1921, raised in Thorndale of proud Irish pioneering families who helped found West Nissouri Township, educated at Thorndale Continuation School and graduated Alma College (1940). After nursing her mother until August 1942, Harriett worked at Central Aircraft, entered Victoria Hospital School of Nursing in 1943 and was elected class president in her graduation year, 1945/46. Harriett worked as a “Special (private) Nurse” until marrying F/L George E. Moll, RCAF, 11 Oct 1947, accompanying her husband in postings over 12 years to Man., Alta., B.C., and Ont., during which she had her children. She resumed nursing in 1960 after relocating to Thorndale, then to Kipps Lane, London, in 1963. She worked at Victoria Hospital’s Out-Patients’ Clinic, Maternity & Obstetrics, and finished her career as one of London’s first Family Practice Nurses, working 17 years with the late Dr. Glen Pratt, MD, FRCP, at Victoria Family Medical Centre, until retiring in 1988. Harriett was strengthened by and passed onto her children her unshakable faith, nurtured by life-long devout yet quiet attendance and support of the Anglican Church of Canada. She was a parishioner of St. George’s-on-the-Wye Anglican Church, Thorndale and St. Jude’s Anglican Church, London. Harriett was a keen follower of politics, a steadfast Conservative and loyal Monarchist. Always passionate about history, especially family genealogy, she became an active member of The West Nissouri Historical Society. Harriett was The revered matriarch and nurturer of her entire family, preserving and celebrating its history. Always strong and loving, she quietly passed on to her children and extended family her deep faith, belief in the power of prayer, compassion for others, the importance of honesty and integrity, and a love of Canada and its rich heritage. Having lived longer than any other known descendent of Richard & Rebecca Lee, Harriett has now reunited with her departed family, but those who remain will always be most grateful to have had her in our lives for as long as we have.
The family wishes to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at Queen’s Village, and thank those on “Memory Lane” for all their loving care of and compassion for our mother during her final years. Family and friends are welcomed for visiting on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London. She was the true matriarch of the Lee Family and all its members including spouses of the children nieces, nephews, open to all with love and friendship, quiet, strong and steady support. It was a joy to know her and now a joy to remember and be inspired to continue her example. My heartfelt blessings especially to her children. Was so glad to be able to participate in her virtual 100th birthday and would fly to the funeral were it possible.
My sincere condolences to the Moll
family on the passing of your dearest Mother. Harriett, as my mother Janet, devoted her life to Nursing— as did my Mother-in- law Margaret! Hence I am confident in asserting these women not only engaged in their own lives of service but inspired their kids and grandkids to also help others.
All of us will always remember this inspiration forever— such is the gift of lives well lived. May your Mom Rest In Peace and I know her memory will bring you joy as you move forward
Mary Jane, Our thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time. Remember your mom with love.
Our love to you all.
My father, Jim Hill extends his condolences to the family of Harriett Moll. Dad was also born in 1921 in Thorndale, and remembers Harriett and a friend going to “all” the dances around Thorndale, he especially mentioned dances at Harold Lee’s barn.
Mary Jane and Richard, two years have passed but I just came across your dear mother’s obituary. I worked with her and Dr Pratt at the Family Medical Center and had much respect for both of them. Harriett was a steadfast women of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and was very kind to all. Truly a lovely lady! I have many happy memories of my time spent with her.
