Joan’s smile reflected her personality, warm and genuine. I met her when we were still in public school and although we lost touch for many years, I saw her periodically over the last few years while she was working at Cherry hill Mall. Always something nice to say, always with that brilliant smile. You will be missed.

Dearest Joan and family:
I worked with Joan at The London Free Press for many years; when I started in the phone room she was one of the first to welcome me “to the family”, mentor me and always, always light up my day. Her smile and laughter lit up our workplace every single day. Her huge heart and kindess was spread throughout the department and touched everyone. One of my favourite stories: Joan and I were discussing naming children and how hard it is to choose names. In a nutshelll I shared that my husband and I had decided not to name our children after any of our parents – partially because we didn’t want to “choose” and risk hurting the others but then I was honest with her and said it was also because we didn’t really like their names enough to pass them on. We had two girls. Joan asked me what our mother’s names were and without skipping a beat I announced..oh my mom was Lucille and Doug’s mom is Joan. As I realized what I had just said to her….I am sure a look of absolute horror came across my face as a stared at this lovely lady also named Joan. Joan’s reaction? As I stammered to try and explain that I hadn’t meant to be rude or offensive to her…Joan just roared that undeniable, contagious laugh and told me that there were no hard feelings. And to me, that will always be Joan..that smiling face who cared more about those and the world around her than herself. Rest peacefully my old friend.
I am so sorry for your loss. Joan always had a smile on her face. Many years ago we met in Grade 1 at Tecumseh Public School. It was a privilege to have her as a life long friend.
We are so sorry to hear of Joan’s passing.
She was such a warm and happy person. We will really miss her.
