Obituary
HEY, Peter….
Peter passed away peacefully at University Hospital, London on Saturday, August 8, 2020 in his 87th year following a period of declining health. He will be dearly missed by his children Andrew (Laura), Cynthia Preston (Dan), Simon (Charlotte), Patrick and Maria Coey (Paul).
Peter was born as the eldest son of Maria & Herbert Hey in Queensbury Yorkshire (UK). He apprenticed as a Loom Fixer at Foster’s Mill, where he played cornet in the company’s Black Dyke Mills Band, winning in the National Brass Band Championship in 1951.
He served three years of National Service with the Black Watch Second Battalion Military Band, including a tour in British Guiana where he met his wife Monica. His work took him traveling to Nigeria, Trinidad, Egypt, Switzerland and Sweden.
He immigrated to Canada in 1966, working in the weaving industry primarily in Brantford for many years until his retirement. He continued his musical career in Canada, including playing trumpet in the Brantford Symphony and leading his dance band The Aristocrats. In his leisure years he loved playing golf & singing karaoke.
Peter was blessed with twelve grandchildren: Helen (Marshall) & Ian Hey; Carole (Severin), Sarah (Josh), Jessica, Benjamin & Jonathan Preston; Paul (Heather), Michael & Luke Hey; Andreas & Mattis Coey and four great-grandchildren Andreas & Dorothy, Aurora & Felix. They will cherish their memories of Grandad with his quick smile, gentle voice and strong spirit.
He will be fondly remembered by his brother Phillip (Pauline), nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Monica (2006), his companion Verla Duhaime (2012), brothers David (2013) & Jack (2016) and his grandson Benjamin Preston (2015).
Family & friends will be gathering privately in person and virtually to celebrate his life and remember him fondly. Memorial donations are appreciated in lieu of flowers to the Willett Hospital Paris In-Patient Transitional Care Unit through the Brant Community Healthcare System Foundation, 200 Terrace Hill Street, Brantford, ON N3R 1G9 or a charity of your choice.

So sorry to hear of Peters passing. He was a good man and we spent many nights at the bar with Peter and Verla singing Karaoke . He will be missed .
Goodbye Uncle Peter. I’ll never forget when he visited us in the UK in the 1980s and one day just turned up and handed me a big ol’ Lego space station.
Condolences from me and from mum (Margaret).
Dad you did your best. You were human like us all. When you were dad we learned so much, when you held us accountable we got stronger, when you were caring and compassionate without regard for religion, race, politics, country. WE became compassionate and comparing. Do what’s RIGHT BECAUSE ITS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.
I will always keep your lessons in my mind and heart. I just wish we’d had more of your time when we needed it most.
Day is done Dad. Day is done. If you are like others whom I have loved and have gone on. I will be spending a lot more time in your company in the years to come. . Love Cynthia
Well Pete you are the last of my brothers to pass away, it feels kind of strange being the last of four brothers.
I wish i could have seen more of you over the years but Pauline and i did enjoy our visits to Canada to see you and Verla and our David and Brenda.
Rest easy Pete but i do hope it is quite a while before we meet again.
Dear Andy and Laura,
Heartfelt condolences from our family to yours. May time and fond memories heal your loss.
