Obituary
McIntyre, Barbara …
The family of Barbara McIntyre (née Hardie) of London and formerly of Sarnia, announce her passing on Friday, September 20, 2019 at London University Hospital. Predeceased by her beloved husband John McIntyre (2018). Loving mother and best mom ever of Laura, Ian (Jane), and Glen (Shauna). Proud grandmother of Evan, Kate, Adeline, and Caelan. Sister-in-law of Margaret Nichols and the late Mary Smith. Predeceased by brothers-in-law Lloyd Nichols and Robert Smith. Aunt of Larry Nichols.
Barbara was raised by her parents John Hardie and Madeline (MacLeod) Hardie in Quebec City. She treasured summers and trips to Glengarry with the MacLeods and McCrimmons. In her class at Queen’s University she was one of two females who graduated in Honours Chemistry. Following a year at Dow Chemical, Sarnia, she enjoyed teaching math and chemistry. She was an avid girl guide leader for many years. Scottish country dancing and dragon boat racing were two of her favourite activities.
Barbara will always inspire us for her sheer will power and determination along with some luck to do whatever it takes to live a normal life following palliative bowel cancer surgery 28 years ago. She dared to hope. From her we are reminded to focus on what is important and not worry too much about the rest, how fortunate one is to have good health and the ability to live life to the fullest, the importance of a healthy lifestyle, and routine cancer screening. Thanks to all of her doctors and other health care professionals for their years of professional care and compassion. We are truly grateful.
The family would appreciate donations to any of the cancer charities. No visitation nor service is planned. Barbara’s ashes will be buried privately. Online condolences, memories and photographs shared at www.amgfh.com

We were so sorry to hear about your Mom. She was such a nice lady and shared many stories with me about her family whom she loved so much and was so proud of. I’ll always cherish the times we spent together

My condolences to Barbara’s family. We lived not far from your mum and dad on Dagan Street in Sarnia, and we’re also Dunlop United Church people. Truly loved talking to your mother.
I did not know your mom very well.she was a gracious lovely lady.A friend gave my husband her book when he was undergoing cancer treatment. It was encouraging for both of us.She touched a lot of people in her lifetime.
I was truly sorry to hear of Barb’s passing. I well remember how she battled cancer while bravely continuing with her teaching at the Adult Learning Centre, Sarnia. My condolences to all her family and friends.
Your dear Mom will be missed by so many. Barb and I would have chats about our grown children, Barb was so proud of her family. I am thinking of all of you as you share memories of your Mom. Nancy
I send my condolences to all of Barb’s family and friends. Barb was a co-worker at the Adult Learning Centre prior to her cancer diagnosis. She embraced life and was an inspiration to us all throughout her battle with cancer. Her family was her inspiration. You’re in our thoughts and prayers.
Dear Laura and all of Barbs Family. Our sincere condolences upon hearing of the death of your beautiful Mother, Barb. She was one of the original Breast Buddies, and an inspiration to all of us on the team. Matthew ( my husband ) and I, are so happy we were able to visit with your mom and dad at their place, once they moved to London. We will never forget Barb or her beautiful smile.
Barb was my much treasured cousin who came home to Gengarry for all my childhood and many more years thereafter.
I had the privilege of being their bridesmaid at the Quebec wedding. Also ,I was there with her and her parents for Charles de Gaulle’s famous visit to Quebec city.
She influenced my life with her love of adventure, her travels and stupendous courage and determination. She gave a lot to my life. Thank you.
Laurie

My heartfelt condolences to you and your families for the loss of your mom. I was shocked to see her here (my mom passed the day before Barb) and was looking at my mom’s AMG listing. I sure enjoyed knowing both your mom & dad at Chartwell. Laura, you are a gem! I enjoyed knowing you as well, take care……Jan @ Chartwell
Dear Laura, Ian & Glen & Families
We were so sorry to hear of Barb’s passing. Thank you for letting us know. We have fond memories of our time in Baton Rouge. I remember how impressed we were with how Barb and John were such devoted parents.
Barb’s story was a story of courage. I remember that when diagnosed so many years ago, she declared that she would not die. She had a boy still in school and this was her main concern!
How lovely that she lived to enjoy grandchildren. Her book inspired others I’m sure. I know I passed it on to another friend with the same diagnosis.
You can all be very proud of your mom/grandmother.
Blessings
