Obituary
HOAR, Shirley Louise (Fahrner)……
Died peacefully at Parkwood Hospital on Monday, April 23, 2012, at the age of 88. Shirley was pre-deceased by her husband of 52 years, Louis (Lou). She is survived by her dear son, Rick (Eric) Hoar and his wife, Barbara Hoover, of London. Shirley was born in Detroit, Michigan, and grew up in Crediton, near Grand Bend, Ontario. She was well read, astute and had an amazing sense of humour. She taught us that “Stubborn” was a positive trait. In her day, she was a prize winning golfer and bowler. She enjoyed years of golf at Maple Ridge Golf Course, beating Lou at “his” game, after he taught her the sport. The London Knights and London Nationals have lost one of their devoted fans. Shirley was born 70 years too soon: she would have cherished the challenges and successes young women in sport enjoy today. At Shirley’s request, there will be no funeral service. Visitation will take place at A Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London, on Sunday, April 29, 2012, between 2:00 and 4:00 pm. Rick and Barbara will say good-bye to Shirley privately. Burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, London. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, 123 St. George Street, London ON N6A 3A1, would be appreciated. Thanks to the staff at Parkwood and to the special people with whom she shared her room, especially Jackie and Leslie. Thanks also to all who visited mom during her 6 months in hospital. She felt truly fortunate to have so many people make time to spend with her. Online condolences accepted at www.amgfh.com

Shirley had the spirit of a good athlete – she would brook dissent but she would not brook stupidity, or if she did, it was with great humour. My deepest sympathy for the loss of your mother, Rick and Barbara.

Dear Barb and Rick,I was sorry to hear about your mom. I know she is now in a better place and happy. She can now be back with your dad.
In her many years of life she left a great legacy of memories for you. No one can take them away and from experience they get better with age.
Friends always, Charlotte
