Dear Sandy,
I am very sorry about the passing of your Mom. I still remember her (and your Grandmother) when I came by after lunch to your house and we walked together to Manor Park School. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Take care, Tina (Jaworski) Czyzewski
Dear dear Sandra, I am at a loss for words, but Martha and I are so sorry for your loss. I smile when I think of Auntie Ella, and the smokes and the cocktails we shared over the years. She was a wonderful woman, and will be missed by all who knew her and loved her.
May God bless you and keep you during this time. Much love to you all.
Aunt Ella–what a great lady. A true cornerstone of the Charlie Hicks family. Her strength and stamina is attested to by the fact that she is the second last serviving member of that family. She was a dedicated mother in the bringing up of her 2 children John and Sandra on her own. A great deal of self sacrifice to bring up great children of which she was so proud. She was so proud also of her own home on Emery Street. She was a constant worker, making household improvements, inside and out and mostly by herself. Emery Street was always a welcome place for family and friends and a place to rest your head on your travels. Ella was an unbeatable card player–by her own admission!! We did have the odd card game over the years with constant suptle ‘shots’ about Copps and ‘Crappy Tire’–fun times.
My deep condolences to Sandra,Brian and their family as well as to John and his wife. Sandra should take great pride in the fact that she was a tremendous care-giver’ to her Mom for so many years. When all this has passed, you will refelct on this with deserving pride. Ella’s legacy is her family. She has left us with a difficult example to follow. We loved her.

Dear Sandra and John,
Dereck has said every appropriate word about our wonderful Auntie Ella so I won’t repeat what has been said so eloquently. Please know you have tons of cousins who feel the same about her. While there are tears flowing, I can assure you everyone of us is chuckling about something she said or did that delighted us.
I am truly sorry for your loss. My condolences go to you, Brian, John, Dona and all Auntie Ella’s beloved grandchildren.

I remember Ella so well. I was only 20 years old (1977)and she hired me at Copps Buildall on York St. first as a casher and then I moved to the switchboard. She was a wonderful boss and a good friend. Over the years we kept in touch with Christmas cards. When I married and moved around Ontario with my husbands job, she always wanted to know how I was doing and she kept me in the loop with the lumbar yard business. She was a fine lady and a woman ahead of her time. Please accept my heart felt condolences to your family. Jackie (Bowlby) Long
Dear Sandra, Brian and family:
Alison and I were saddened to hear of your Mom’s passing. To me she was always a lady of great spirit and always had a smile to share no matter what turn of fate offered her. It is a character trait I can certaily learn from.
You should rest assured that your tender loving care through thick and thin over the years gave Ella a quality of life even when life’s other ‘pleasures’ were wearing thin.
I echo GJ’s comment that Dereck hit the nail on the head with his remembrances of your Mom.
I think we should open a couple of Labatt’s Crystals at our next euchre game and toast the joy and chuckles she brought to all of us.
God bless you for your caring attitude and actions and peace to you everyone in the family.
Peter.
