Obituary
FISHER, Mary
Mrs. Mary Fisher (nee Hannan) went to be with our Lord & Saviour on May 4, 2011 surrounded by family. She was born in London England in 1915 & later immigrated with her young family & husband Eric to Canada, but always remained British at heart. Predeceased by her husband Eric & daughter-in-law Janet, Nan is survived by 2 sons Brian (NS) & Keith (ON), 4 grandchildren, Dawn (Barry) London, Heather (Stacy) Fisher, Brian (Krista) Fisher, Mary Amanda (Jeff) Bourque & 5 great- grandchildren, a sister-in-law & friend, Anne (England) & a treasured friend Sharon M (Moncton). Nan was a Veteran of WW II, driving tanks down narrow London streets at night, & a past member of the IODE. After the war, Nan was educated in the intricacies of fine china, of all types, whether in bone china tea cups, figurines or simple plates & she enjoyed passing on some of the finer points to her grandchildren over time like a treasured heirloom. Later in life, Nan discovered the joys of volunteering, whether reading to seniors (she herself was already in her 80’s) or helping out at the men’s shelter doing the laundry or serving in soup kitchens in both London & Moncton. Nan had a tremendous love of music, particularly marching bands. She loved tapestry, embroidery, knitting & embroidery of which she was an expert. Her patience was unfailing as she tried to teach her grandchildren the art of knitting, embroidery & needlepoint. (She really needed that patience!) Nan also had such a love for travel, and She traveled from Australia to Ireland, all over Canada (her favourite province being Newfoundland) with her ultimate trip being Alaska. A special Thank You goes out to the wonderful staff at Monarch Hall for the tenderness, love & compassion you have shown to Nan while she resided with you & to the family during a difficult time. Friends will be received by the family from 7 to 9 pm Sunday, May 8th, 2011 at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London where the funeral service will be conducted in the chapel on Monday, May 9th at 11:00 am. Interment beside her husband Eric in Woodland Cemetery, London. In lieu of flowers, donations to the House of Nazareth, (http://www.maison-nazareth.org) in which Nan had volunteered would be appreciated, or the charity of your choice. On-line condolences accepted at www.amgfh.com
A Chinese Proverb says “One joy shatters a hundred grief’s”. Nan, you have given us some many “joys” in our lives, but the grief of missing you will always be here. Until we see you again.
